U2 played a surprise gig last night for Sean Penn's Haiti fundraiser.

CTV News reported that Sean Penn threw his third annual Help Haiti Home benefit. The event raised $6 million for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.

While a lot of the Hollywood elite are attending parties in preparation for the Golden Globes, the stars that attend the benefit for Haiti were able to witness an intimate performance from U2.

Earlier in the night Bono took to the stage for an acoustic performance but ending the night was the full U2 band who played a three song set.

The guest list was full of celebrities including, Bette Midler, Michael Douglas, Chelsea Handler, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Piers Morgan, Sarah Silverman, Idris Elba and many more, Fox News added.

Hosting the evening was CNN's Anderson Cooper, who also had the largest donation of the night. Cooper bid $1.4 million to win a sculpture that will be made out of Penn's 65 discarded firearms.
