Kurt Cobain’s hometown of Aberdeen, Washington has decided to proclaim a day to honor the late singer.
The Associated Press has reported that Bill Simpson, the mayor of Aberdeen, has said that the grunge rocker's birthday on Feb. 20 will be proclaimed 'Kurt Cobain Day' in the city.
According to KXRO, the proclamation reads, "Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievements."
The Nirvana frontman rose to fame in 1991 and married Hole lead singer Courtney Love one year later.
Cobain was an extremely talented, but troubled performer. He was heavy into alcohol and drugs for much of his career.
In 1994, he was found dead in an apparent suicide in the guest house of his Seattle home.
A lengthy suicide note was left behind addressing his fans, his wife and the couple’s daughter, Frances Bean.
