Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker has been under criticism by some players and coaches around the NFL this past week. He is under scrutiny for the hit he laid on Patriots star corner back Aqib Talib that took him out of the AFC Championship Game.
It all started when Patriots coach Bill Belichick accused Welker of deliberately hurting Talib in order to get him out of the game, during his press conference the next day. Belichick called the play one of the worst he has ever seen in his entire coaching career, according to Yahoo Sports.
A player from the team the Broncos will play in the Super Bowl is also speaking out against Welker. Seahawks corner back Walter Thurmond said Wednesday that he thought the hit was unnecessary and the he should have been penalized for it, which he was not, according to ESPN.
The league reviewed the play to decide whether or not Welker should be fined for the hit. On Wednesday the NFL announced that the hit was legal and cleared Wes of any wrongdoing on the play, according to Yahoo Sports.
