The Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation released a video for their new single “Whole World is Watching” off of their upcoming sixth studio album Hydra.
The conceptual video for “Whole World Is Watching”, which also features Soul Asylum’s Dave Pirner, plays like a Hollywood movie. A man gets in a motorcycle accident, after drinking and driving, ending up in a wheelchair. The man is finally fed up, and with the uplifting chorus The whole world is watching when you rise/ The whole world is beating for you right now/ Your whole life is flashing before your eyes/ It's all in this moment that changes all starts to cut his long hair, shave his beard, and begin physical therapy. After struggles and not giving up, the man finally stands triumphantly. The last scene sees the man literally throwing his old life away – pictures of him wheelchair bound, a bottle of alcohol, and lastly his backpack – he rides off.
Throughout the movie-like sequence, surrounded by gold light, lead singer Sharon den Adel sings with Pirner on top of a rooftop, much in the same vein as Nickelback’s contribution to the Spiderman movie “Hero.” Den Adel’s ethereal voice sounds better, and stronger, than ever.
Hydra is due out February 4, and also features collaborations with former Killswitch Engage frontman Howard Jones and rapper Xzibit.
