The upcoming film Divergent will be released on March 21st but plans for the upcoming sequel is already underway.

The sequel Insurgent, will be directed by Robert Schwentke. Insurgent is based upon the second novel in Veronica Roth's series about a unique future for the world.

Schwentke has worked with Summit before, the studio that is behind the upcoming Divergent franchisee. Schwentke was worked on Red, Flightplan and The Time Travelers Wife.

Production will start in May with a release date in March 2015 through the Summit label, Variety reported.

Divergent tells the story of Beatrice Prior and how she is living in a futuristic world in Chicago.

Divergent stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James and is being directed by Neil Burger. Burger opted not to take over the next film late last year. The upcoming film also stars Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Kate Winslet, The LA Times reported.

Summit and Lionsgate are both hoping that the Divergent franchise will have the same success as Twilight and Hunger Games.
