The film, Nebraska, is nominated for six Independent Spirit Awards this year.

Nebraska is second only behind 12 Years a Slave in the amount of nominations this year. Nebraska could take home awards for Best Feature, Best Male Lead, and Best Supporting Female, according to Variety.

Nebraska is about an aging alcoholic father who journeys to Nebraska to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize. Bruce Dern is nominated for Best Male Lead. He played Woody Grant in the film. He won for his performance in Nebraska at the Cannes Film Festival, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He has appeared in the films, Northern Borders andFighting for Freedom. He has been nominated for two Oscars, one for Nebraska and one for the 1979 film, Coming Home.

June Squibb is nominated in the Best Supporting Female category. She plays Kate Grant in the movie. She was also seen in the film, Would You Rather, and in the television series, The Millers.

The Independent Spirit Awards will take place on March 1 in Santa Monica, a day before the Oscars. Patton Oswalt is hosting the ceremony.
