Sergey Gordeev, a senior at a high school in Moscow, went into his school on Monday, and shot and killed his geography teacher, 37 year old Andrey Kirillov, a police officer, and wounded another officer.

According to RT News , Gordeev’s classmates told LifeNews that, "He shot the teacher in the stomach, checked whether he was alive, and then carried out a control shot to his head.”

The police arrived at the school, and moved toward Gordeev, who held 20 students hostage. The senior opened fire, killing one police officer. Gordeev was later captured alive, and has been taken to detention to be analyzed.

Authorities think that the boy had an “emotional breakdown” about a grade his geography teacher may have given him.

School shootings are rare in Russia, however in 2004; separatist militants captured a school in North Caucasus town of Beslan, killing 330 people, who were mostly children, according to Reuters.

This school shooting comes so close to the Sochi Winter Olympics, where authorities are trying to maintain an air of security at a time where there is a huge risk for people to come to the games.
