21 people were killed during a Taliban raid on an Afghan army base.

The Afghan National Army base was attacked by the Taliban, killing 21 soldiers who were still in their beds. Government officials call this the worst attack since 2010, according to the Globe and Mail.

An investigation has been ordered by Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The Afghan armies do not have American military present daily at this time.
While there have been attempts at peace, this attacked has taken the area another step back.

According to Stars and Stripes, the attack took place promptly at 4 am and lasted for four hours.

In a statement on his website, President Karzai has reportedly postponed a trip to Sri Lanka in order to stay in Afghanistan due to these recent events. Karzai is calling on Pakistan to help them fight this “grave and serious threat” with “serious and effective measures.”

A reported 84 Afghan soldiers have been killed this year.
