This week’s movie trailer column is filled with an animated dramedy, horror and a coming-of-age movie. Ernest & Celestine tells the animated story of an odd friendship that comes about between a bear and a small mouse. Under the Skin is a horror flick that has an alien preying on hitchhikers in Scotland and Breathe In is the tale of a foreign exchange student, who comes to the US and changes the lives of her host family. All three movies have ique plots that will no doubt draw moviegoers in. Ernest & Celestine is an animated feature about the unlikely friendship that develops between a bear and a young mouse. Under the Skin will no doubt be a draw to those fans who love tales of aliens taking over attractive womens’ bodies (remember Species? and wreak havoc among humans) and finally, Breathe In, which tells the story of a foreign exchange student who challenges her host family’s perceptions of life.

The trailer for Ernest & Celestine , which is rated PG, shows the improbable camaraderie that develops between Ernest, the bear and Celestine, the mouse. After convincing Ernest not to eat her, the trailer portrays Celestine showing Ernest how to have fun, exercise, etc. Yet, their newfound alliance doesn’t sit well with Celestine’s family, who is still terrified of Ernest because he’s a bear. The movie expresses a bevy of dramatic emotions that aren’t usual for an animated feature. In addition, the animation isn’t as sophisticated as the usual high-end, colorful animation that moviegoers have become accustomed to and looks more like simple drawings, which might make moviegoers care about the characters more. It opens in theaters on Friday, February 28.

Under the Skin is a horror movie spawned from such scary jaunts as 1995’s Species. Except in this version, Scarlett Johansson plays the alien, who begins preying on lowly hitchhikers. Obviously, those who saw the popularity of Species and how using a gorgeous female to play the alien, decided to go for yet another run with the idea. Though ScarJo’s fans aren’t used to seeing her as a vicious, murderous alien, I’m sure fans of her films will flock to this one nonetheless, just to see the sexy ways she reels in her victims. It opens in theaters on Friday, April 4.

Breathe In was an official selection at multiple film festivals, like Sundance. It tells the tale of a shy foreign exchange student, who ends up opening her host family up to different perspectives on the world, music and living life to its fullest. Starring The Count of Monte Cristo’s Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones, Jones’ character shows Pearce’s character and his family how to enjoy life, though at first, Jones’ character doesn’t seem to be enjoying hers. It opens in theaters on Friday, March 28.
