50 Cent is leaving Interscope Records, which includes Eminem’s imprint Shady/Aftermath, for Capitol Music Group, which he has announced on Thursday. He spent 12 years with Interscope but not without some hiccups along the way.
Although he’s seen much success with the label, with Platinum albums such as Get Rich or Die Tryin' and The Massacre, he’s been vocal about his disapproval of the way they’ve handled his music. For example, he accused the label of delaying the release of his album Street King Immortal>. His last album was 2009’s Before I Self Destruct.
50, real name Curtis Jackson, has signed with the independent label, Caroline, MTV News reports.
In a statement, the rapper said, “I have had great success to date with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope and I’d like to thank Eminem and Dr. Dre for giving me an incredible opportunity. I’ve learned so much from them through the years. I am excited to enter this new era where I can carry out my creative vision.”
Eminem also proved there are no hard feelings with 50 severing ties with the label, saying he and the rapper will remain lifelong friends, Hip Hop n More reports.
In his own statement, he said he’s “grateful to have had the chance to play a part in 50′s career. Shady simply would not be what it is without 50 Cent,” adding, “I’ve developed a great friendship with 50 over the years, and that’s not going to change. We know 50 will have success in his new situation, and we remain supporters of both him and G-Unit.”
