Actress Helen Mirren took home a special award at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, Feb. 16. Mirren received the British Academy Fellowship in recognition of her outstanding career.
She received the honor from Prince William. In past years, Mirren took home an Academy Award for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen. According to The Independent, Mirren said of meeting Prince William, “I have never met him before actually and I have to say he is really very sweet and very charming. It was a great honour, really fantastic.”
Actors who have received the British Academy Fellowship include Charlie Chaplin, Elizabeth Taylor, and Judi Dench. The British Fellowship is given to people that offer an outstanding, exceptional contribution to film.
Mirren received the award with the award at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. According to the Associated Press, Mirren, 68, said she was "almost speechless" at receiving the honor. "It's been an amazing journey up to now," Mirren said.
Other people honored at the BAFTA Awards on Sunday include Peter Greenaway, Cate Blanchett, and Alfonso Cuaron.
