The popular magazine, Essence, will be honoring African-American men in film during Oscar week.
Oscars season is a busy time. As many wait in expectation, others are taking a moment to remember those stars that have made an impact on the silver screen. The magazine known to bring glamour and style to African-American women, is holding a dinner to remember the men who have made an impression in Hollywood. The first “Black Men in Hollywood” dinner will recognize popular filmmakers like Spike Lee, Lee Daniels, Malcolm Lee. The spectacular evening will be hosted by filmmaker Tyler Perry, according to the Associated Press.
That isn’t the only event this year brining attention to those who are preparing for the Oscars. On Feb. 26 in Los Angeles, Lupita Nyong’o will be recognized by Essence for her nomination as Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years a Slave, the stunning movie that has garnered nine Oscar nominations. Nyong’o is in good company, as co-stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender were also nominated for Oscars. This year, 12 Years a Slave is also nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year, according to Variety.
