An American traveler on a motorcycle journey from the United States to South America has vanished in Mexico and not been heard from since late January.

According to WABC, the family of Harry Devert of Westchester, N.Y. has been pleading with the government to step up the search.

CNN has reported that the last message Devert sent out via Whatsapp messenger was to tell his girlfriend that the Mexican military was escorting him out of a dangerous area.

"Just got an hour and a half long escort out of some area it was too dangerous for me to be," his message read. "Stopping for lunch and ... voila Internet. ... Gonna get back on the road soon. Apparently there's another military escort waiting for me in some other town... I'm running way late because of the crazy military stuff...hopefully get a chance to talk to you tonight when I (hopefully) finally arrive."

The family has taken to the Internet and social media to get the word and hopefully be provided some clues about Devert’s disappearance.

On Saturday, a State Department representative confirmed that a U.S. citizen was missing in Michoacán, which is the last place the 32-year-old was seen.
