The remains of an ancient village have been discovered in downtown Miami.
According to the Daily Mail, the 2,000-year-old Native American village remains unearthed by archaeologists, could be one of the oldest towns in North America. The site of the remarkable discovery has even been called "the birthplace of Miami."
The site, where MDM Development Group plans to put up high-rise real estate, may have its plans halted since archaeologists are so impressed with the newest find.
Although many discoveries have been made at the site recently, this particular one is significant and could spell trouble for the group.
In the late ‘90s, when another ancient site was uncovered, the discovery led to the developer being forced to sell the land back to the city.
CNN has noted that Gene Stearns, the lawyer for the Metropolitan Miami developers, acknowledged that the project is in its final stages of completion and plans should not be stymied because of the discovery.
"This is the last element of a very extensive downtown development project, all of which has been hugely successful," he said.
