The Arctic Monkeys won a lot of awards at the BRIT awards last week and the band is keeping their momentum going. The group won five honors last night at the NME Awards.

Going into the night the group had eight nominations and won for top awards of the nights including; best British band and album for their recent release AM. Arctic Monkeys had the most nominations going into the evening and won five awards overall, Telegraph added.

Alex Turner, lead singer for Arctic Monkeys also took home the award for "hero of the year." He beat out some major names in the music industry including, David Bowie, Pussy Riot and the late Lou Reed from Velvet Underground, Billboard reported.

Turner was honored to take home the award and added that this has been a great year for the band. "As the sun sets on awards season for another year there's just the big two left. I'm talking about the Oscars and the NME Awards. That said I'd like to thank The Academy, I used all my best shit last week," said Turner.
