Authorities say an arrest has been made in the 40-year old murder of a Massachusetts woman.

The Associated Press reported that prosecutors said a Georgia man has been arrested for the killing of a Shrewsbury woman 40 years after her death.

On Tuesday, spokesman for District Attorney Joseph Early, said that Lonzo Guthrie of Austell, Ga., has been arrested for the 1974 slaying of Eileen Ferro.

CNN notes that officials have said that a DNA match turned the cold case active.

The 21-year-old was found fatally stabbed in her home. Guthrie was never suspected in Ferro’s murder case. He had a delivery at her home the day prior to her being stabbed.

Investigators linked Guthrie to the crime through a DNA sample.

Georgia authorities said the 69-year-old has been arrested for driving with a suspended license and is a registered sex offender in California. He recently violated parole.

Guthrie is being held in Douglas Country, Ga. until he is extradited back to Massachusetts.
