BJ Novak is set to play another villain in the upcoming "Amazing Spider-Man 2," director Marc Webb revealed on Monday. Novak is cast as Alistair Smythe, a comic book character.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the "Office" alum joined the crew of the film last March, but his part was kept under wraps before Webb revealed the secret on Twitter.

Novak's character, Alistair Smythe, is the son of Spencer Smythe, the inventor of the Spider Slayer robots. The younger Smythe carries on his father's work after his death, using his father's inventions to wreak havoc in hopes to kill Spidey.

As Vulture notes, this means that the upcoming film will technically have four villains. Paul Giamatti plays the hulking Rhino, and Jamie Foxx plays super-charged Electro. Lastly, Dane DeHaan is taking on the role of Harry Osborn, while Chris Cooper plays his father Norman, one of whom is likely to become the next Green Goblin.

Novak, who played Ryan Howard on NBC's long-running sitcom "The Office," is also releasing a debut stand-up album, titled One More Thing, in stores Tuesday.

"The Amazing-Spider Man," starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, released a TV spot during Sunday's Super Bowl, and is poised to hit theaters May 2.
