Co-founder of Irrational Games, Ken Levine, announced on Tuesday that the 17-year-old game studio would be shutting down, though not for a reason like bankruptcy.

Levine revealed the news through a blog post on the company's website, reports Forbes.

In the post, Levine noted that the decision to shutdown the Bioshock developer was to focus on "making a different kind of game than we've done before." In order for Levine to do that, he needed to tighten up the team and "return to how we started: a small team making games for the core gaming audience."

This news means that all but 15 people who worked for Irrational were let go. Levine will still remain with the company Take-Two Interactive, who owns Irrational via 2K Games.

Levine plans to work on games that a more "narrative-driven," according to USA Today.

Irrational Games is best known developing the Bioshock series, which released the third game Bioshock Infinite last year, which was critically-acclaimed.

Kotaku notes that Irrational's last move will be to finish and release the second part of the Burial at Sea DLC in March.
