Bob Casale, the guitarist of ‘Devo’ died on Monday at age 61.
Gerald, Casale’s brother, said that he died suddenly from complications that lead to heart failure. According to TMZ, Gerald said, “"As an original member of Devo, Bob Casale was there in the trenches with me from the beginning. He was my level-headed brother, a solid performer, and talented audio engineer, always giving more than he got."
This was a surprising death for the remaining members of Devo, a band that was famous for their art rock music. Their hit song, “Whip It,” topped the charts in 1980. The original band consisted of Gerald and Bob Casalas, Mark and Bob Mothersbaughs, along with Alan Myers. They have played a number of shows over the years, and their last album was released in 2010.
Devo’s first album was Q: Are We Not Men A: We are Devo!. Other albums included Freedom of Choice, New Traditionalists, Shout, and then, Something for Everybody in 2010. According to MTV, Something for Everybody was put together via a crowdsourcing experiment.
