Bob Costas is set to return to NBC's coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics Monday night and he opened up about his week spent off the air dealing with pinkeye.
Costas spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and noted he still isn't perfectly healthy yet. Viewers will definitely notice that the news anchor retains some redness around both his eyes.
I'll be able to function... It won't have any effect on what I do."
So what did he do for that week off the air? Well, it seems Costas spent several days in his pitch-black hotel room until the light sensitivity problems went away. Once that had passed he started venturing out of his room somewhat. "To break the monotony, I would walk down to the lobby of the hotel to go to the restaurant or out on the terrace at night."
He also had to catch back up on the Olympic coverage after not watching for a few days while recovering. Though he spent the majority of his time watching the NBC coverage of the games, Costas admits to watching his alma mater Syracuse topple North Carolina State before resuming the Olympics.
On Sunday, it was announced that Costas would be returning to the Sochi desk after being sidelined for a week with pinkeye. During his time off the air, he was replaced by both Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira for a time.
