Walt Disney World has decided to stop its support of Boy Scouts of America due to organization’s decision to continue its discrimination against openly gay adult members.
The decision on the part of Boy Scouts of America, also referred to as BSA, is a recent one that was put into effect January 1, 2014, according to The Huffington Post. Before this time, open homosexuality in BSA was not tolerated. However, after mounting social pressure and financial issues due to the old worldviews of BSA, the organization lifted the ban in May 2013 to allow the youth members to freely express themselves.
This did not carry over for adults. Adults who are gay and serving as scout leaders are strictly prohibited. In short, this means when a member of BSA turns 18-years-old, he will asked to leave the scouts.
Walt Disney world is simply the latest group that has stopped supporting BSA after their decision, following companies like Chipotle, Intel, UPS, and Lockhead Martin, according to Think Progress. All of these companies have stated that BSA’s decision goes against their company policies not to discriminate on any grounds.
