Eight college students were confirmed dead after a building at Mauna Ocean Resort in Gyeongju, South Korea collapsed allegedly under duress of heavy snow while 1,000 freshman students were attending a concert for new student orientation.

Authorities fear that over 50 students may still be trapped inside the building. Heavy equipment is being brought in to clear the debris. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, a fire marshal said that 73 people were injured, 15 of those were injured seriously.

According to the News-Record, although it was thought that the collapse happened because of heavy snowfall, authorities will further investigate the matter.

At the time of the collapse, around 500 students were in the building; however most got themselves out of the building out of the way of harm.

Due to the heavy snowfall, authorities had a hard time getting to the accident, as well as the injured.

Some of the injured were taken out on stretchers because of their wounds.
