Adam Young, also known as Owl City, and Carly Rae Jepsen definitely will not be having a “Good Time” any time soon. Another artist is apparently suing the pair for copyright infringement.
According to TMZ, Ally Burnett is suing the collaborators to the summer of 2012 hit for infringement of her song, “Ah, It’s a Love Song.”
The nonprofit performing-rights organization, BMI, reached an agreement with the “original” singer that will give $804,156 of the song’s royalties. However, unfortunately for Jepson and Young, this will make the money unavailable to the duo until the case is resolved.
Burnet is supposed to drop the suit but where the money will end up is not yet confirmed. Until a decision is made as to whether or not copyright infringement was the case, it will sit untouched.
“Good Time” reached No. 8 on the Billboard Top 100 for 2012. In an interview with MTV in June of that year, Young told MTV News that he feels, “Ever artist is inherently granted one shot to sing about having a good time.”
Too bad he won’t have the extra money to have a really good time.
