Baseball athlete says that, after some careful thinking, he will attend the Academy Awards this Sunday.
The major league athlete had a minor role in the film, The Dallas Buyers Club. He played a bartender in the Academy Award nominated film. It isn’t that often that baseball and Hollywood have this kind of synergy.
Dunn invested in the film as a “friend of the producer,” according to the Associated Press. Joe Newcomb, a former baseball player, was one of the producers of the film. Dunn had no problem getting out of responsibilities with the White Sox for the weekend to take the trip to the Oscars, according to ESPN. Manager Robin Ventura and General Manager Rick Hahn were supportive of Dunn attending the ceremony.
Dallas Buyers Club is the story of Ron Woodroof who works around the system to get medicine. It stars Matthew McConaughey and was nominated for Best Motion Picture of the Year and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. The movie also stars Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto.
The 86th Annual Academy Awards will be held on March 2 at the Dolby Theatre.
