The German Doctor follows one of the most horrific Nazi’s of all time, Josef Mengele, infamous for performing human experiments in the Auschwitz concentration camp, who fled Germany after WWII where we find him in Argentina in 1960.
After WWII many Nazi’s went into hiding, several of which made their way to South America. The true story finds Mengele in Argentina, befriending a family that runs the hotel he is staying in. Helping out, giving some medical advice, the doctor is intrigued with the hotel owner’s daughter, Lilith. As the trailer goes on, he seems more curious, starting some of his “experiments” again while the family, and a photographer in the small village, suspect something isn’t right. At the same time, Israeli agents are desperately looking to bring the former German SS officer, nicknamed the “Angel of Death”, to justice.
The Argentinian film was a star at its own Unasur Cine Film Festival, winning Best Actor, Actress, Director, and Film, first screened at Cannes in 2013, and will be now making its American debut in 2014. Although subtitled in English, The German Doctor is sure to draw not only foreign film enthusiasts, but history buffs, and even film goers looking for a good drama and thriller.
The German Doctor opens in select cities on Friday April 25.
