Chiwetel Ejiofor has added another award to his resume, the 12 Years a Slave star won best actor at the British Academy Film, U.K. awards.
The AP reported that Ejiofor thanked director Steve McQueen being willing to tell the story and bringing this project to life on the big screen.
He told McQueen while presenting the award that, “This is yours. I’m going to keep it — that’s the kind of guy I am — but it’s yours.”
Also winning big at the awards was Gravity. Director, Alfonso Cuaron was named best director for his work on the sci-fi epic. Gravity which was a surprise hit at the box office stared Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Gravity led the award nominations with 11. 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle had 10 nominations going into the BAFTA awards, Reuters added.
Gravity and 12 Years a Slave are both high Oscar contenders for the upcoming award ceremony which will be happening on March 2, 2014 and will be hosted by Ellen Degeneres. This is the first time Degeneres will be hosting since 2007.
