In what seems like endless woes for the governor of the State of New Jersey, he can now add his bodyguard's shoplifting arrest to the list.
NJ Watchdog has reported that State Trooper William A. Carvounis, is accused of stealing $267 in gun supplies from a Cabela’s store near Hamburg, Pa.
According to the Associated Press, on Monday, Tilden Township Police Chief William McEllroy said that the trooper shoplifted the gun accessories and then tried to avoid his arrest by saying he would lose his job as a member of the governor’s security detail if charges were brought against him.
“He said he makes $140,000 a year, and he’s afraid of losing his job,” said McEllroy.
Surveillance footage shows the 35-year-old lifting the items and then
slipping them into his pockets.
Carvounis’ attempt at a get-out-of-jail-free card did not work and if anything his admission just gave Gov. Christie another headache.
The trooper is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 10.
