Convicted murder Michael David Elliot escaped from Ionia Correctional Facility in Michigan on Sunday night and abducted a woman. Elliot was caught Monday in LaPorte County, Indiana.
CNN reports that Elliot, 40, was serving a five year life sentence on a 1994 conviction four murders. As authorities realized that Elliot had escaped they warned the public to not mess with him.
Michigan Department of Corrections spokesman Russell L. Marlan said today that on Sunday at about 9:30 p.m. prison authorities realized that Elliot was missing. Elliot pulled back the bottom of two fences and crawled underneath to escape the correctional facility.
Elliot abducted a woman by using a box cutter, a hammer and stole her Jeep Liberty. The woman was able to flee when they stopped at a gas station. She locked herself in the bathroom and called 911.
She told the 911 dispatcher that Elliot had not hurt her. The woman proceeded to tell the dispatcher, "He didn't say where, exactly, he just said somewhere far. He just wants to get someplace far from Ionia”
Elliot realized that the woman was in the bathroom and was knocking on the door yelling, “Let’s go!”
New York Daily News added that Elliot had fled with the woman’s Jeep before authorities had arrived.
The woman’s Jeep was found on Monday deserted in Shipshewana, a town about 20 miles east of Elkhart.
Elliot is back behind bars; he was caught Monday evening in LaPorte County
