Protests against President Bashar al-Assad turned deadly when armed forces cracked down on the up risers. Now, more than 140,000 people have been killed, 7,000 were children.
Since “Geneva 2” peace talks, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says that it has been the bloodiest of the nearly three year conflict, which has turned into a civil war, according to Reuters.
UN Mediator Lakhdar Brahimi apologized to Syrian civilians when the Geneva peace talks did not amount to much on Saturday, according to the Associated Press. Brahimi reassured the Syrian people that the government was committed to stopping the bloodshed.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights updates their death toll, and on Friday the 14th, 9 children, 5 women, 82 rebels, 93 civilians, 21, non-Syrians, along with many more were killed in clashes against the regime.
The United Nations has announced that they will stop updating their death toll because of the amount of bloodshed on the ground is hard to keep track of.
