A senior U.S. law enforcement official said that U.S. and Mexican authorities were able to capture infamous drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman in a Mazatlan, Mexico hotel.
According to The Associated Press, the head of the Sinaloa Cartel was snagged in the hotel where he was staying.
Law enforcement has been after the drug lord for numerous federal charges relating to drug trafficking. His cartel has ties in not only North America, but also Australia and Europe. Authorities have been trying to capture El Chapo for over a decade. He is known to be "the most powerful drug trafficker in the world," according to the U.S. Treasury Department.
The unidentified law enforcement officer said, "no shots were fired," reports The Washington Post.
There has not been word on where El Chapo will be prosecuted as both the U.S. and Mexico have charges they want brought against the drug lord.
Forbes notes that he has been in police custody before, but got help from prison guards and slipped out of custody through the laundry.
