Dave Lee Travis, former Top of the Pops presenter and BBC Radio 1 DJ, has been cleared of 12 sex charges against him and spoke out about it outside of Southwark Crown Court on Thursday.
He was accused of 14 charges against 11 women between the years 1976 and 2008. The jury failed to reach a verdict in two of the charges and were subsequently discharged.
“You already know I have been through a year and a half of hell, which included costing me so much money, to pay for my part of the trial - proving the point not all famous people have lots in the bank – I had to sell my home to do it,” he told reporters, The Telegraph reports.
He added that he is “not over the moon about any of this today. I do not feel like there is a victory of any way, shape or form, on the contrary.”
According to Reuters, Travis was one of Britain’s most noted DJs in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Women working at BBC's central London headquarters have come forward to accuse Travis of groping them at corporate events over the span of three decades.
His wife, Marianne, has remained by his side throughout the trial. He said on Thursday he just wanted to “go home and relax with my wife, who has been suffering also and has been by my side."
"I did lose my reputation as well, which I may try to get back later, but basically I want to say that I have had two trials,” he continued. “One trial by the media and one trial by the Crown Court and I have to say that I prefer the trial by Crown Court.”
