In Aberdeen, Washington, fans remembered the legendary singer who brought grunge rock to the main stream. Feb. 20 has been declared Kurt Cobain day.
According to The Guardian, celebrations set for Kurt Cobain day included the unveiling of a statue of Cobain by local artist Randi Hubbard. The statue will be placed at the Aberdeen Museum of History.
Kurt Cobain was the lead singer of the band Nirvana. Cobain formed the band, Nirvana, with bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington. Aberdeen was Cobain’s hometown. The band originally had a number of drummers including Dave Grohl, who is now famous for the Foo Fighters.
Nirvana was popular in the early 1990s. Their albums included Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero. Nevermind produced the hits, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Lithium.” Nirvana fans got the news that the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, according to the Associated Press.
Cobain was married to musician, Courtney Love. He committed suicide 20 years ago. He would have been 47 years old.
