A teacher at a Florida charter school has been suspended after she forced a child to clean a clogged urinal with his bare hands.

Jennifer Forshey, a teacher at Broward Community Charter School West in Coral Springs, Florida, was charged with battery of a child by exposure to urine, according to the Coral Springs Police Department.

"It's a third degree felony and it encompasses urine, feces, bodily fluids, stuff like that," Coral Springs Sgt. Carla Kmiotek told The New York Daily News.

On February 6, Forshey accused the ten-year-old student of clogging a urinal with paper towel. Though the child denied the action, Forshey forced him to venture into the bathroom and remove the paper towel, which had since been soaked with other people’s urine, by hand as a form of punishment.

According to Fox News, the school learned of the incident when the boy went to an office in the school looking for soap to wash his hands, as there had been none in the bathroom.

When the child went home that day, he relayed the events to his mother, who called the school the next day to report Forshey. The boy’s mother then reported the incident to the police department.

According to an arrest report, Forshey admitted that she did not provide the boy with safety gloves or another form of protection when she forced him to clean the urinal.

If convicted, the Broward Community Charter School teacher could face up to five years in jail.

She is currently out on bond.
