Great songs are also a reason to go the movies. After a recent controversy, there are still only four nominees for the Oscar for Best Song of the Year.
“Happy” from Despicable Me 2 tops the list. Other nominated songs include “Let It Go” from Frozen, “The Moon Song from Her, and “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, according to the official Oscars website.
“Alone Yet Not Alone” was taken out of the race this year. The song was removed after Bruce Broughton sent an e-mail asking Academy voters to listen to his song. So far, there’s been no change of heart to add the song back to the list, but supporters of Broughton have taken the fight all the way to the Academy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Pharrell Williams, 40, will perform nominated song, “Happy” at the awards, according to the Associated Press. Williams is a versatile performer and recently won Grammy Awards for Producer of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance with Daft Punk. It’s not known if he will perform with an animated background, but his appearance at the Grammys kept everyone talking.
The 86th Annual Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre on March 2.
