A 24-year-old man in France has been charged with animal cruelty after he threw his kitten at his apartment building and uploaded the video on Facebook.
In the video, the Marseilles man is seen throwing a four-month-old kitten named Oscar into the air, reports The Telegraph. At the end, poor Oscar is then seen being thrown at an apartment building wall. The cat then falls on the concrete sidewalk.
Société Protectrice des Animaux, which oversees animal health in France, has its Marseilles office treating Oscar for a broken foot and a stomach injury.
Authorities declined to give the Associated Press the suspect’s name. If he’s convicted, he could face a 30,000 euro ($40,500) fine and two years in prison.
“More and more people are filming themselves doing this and putting it online. In this case, the fact he put it on his Facebook profile with his personal details made it very easy for the police to find him,” Christophe Marie of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation told the AP. The foundation, which fights for animal rights, confirmed that the video was published on Jan. 21 and has since been taken off Facebook.
Police are also hoping to identify the person who filmed the clip.
