Gary Melius, who is a Long Island developer and owner of the well-known Oheka Castle, was shot in the head by a masked gunman on Monday.

According to The New York Times, Melius was shot outside of his estate in Suffolk County. He was taken to the hospital by his daughter.

He was first checked into the Syosset Hospital, but later moved to North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System for surgery.

Police said the 69-year-old was getting into his car when a masked gunman approached him and shot him in the head. Melius was reportedly conscious earlier in the afternoon. Police also are still looking for the gunman.

Melius is often best known for owning the Oheka Castle located in Huntington, Long Island, reports The New York Daily News. He bought the castle, which was used in the film Citizen Kane, and he uses it to host events, often political, and weddings.

It was where former Congressman Anthony Weiner and his wife, Human Abedin, got married.
