Oscar nominated actor Gary Oldman has confirmed that he has been called about a role in Star Wars: Episode VII, although he wouldn’t go into any details.
Oldman let the news drop during an interview with Sky News that was supposed to be about the RoboCop remake, which opens next week. The Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy actor was asked if Star Wars was going to be the next franchise he would take part in.
“They’ve called,” he replied and that’s all he said. Oldman said that nothing has been signed and he could not offer any further details.
Oldman has been in so many Hollywood blockbusters that he even he can’t believe it until he’s on the plane ride home. He played Commissioner Gordon in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy and is next set to appear in the new Planet of the Apes film. He was also in the Harry Potter films.
The only ‘actor’ confirmed for the seventh Star Wars film so far is R2-D2. Although Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford have hinted that they may be back, Disney and Lucasfilm haven’t confirmed anything.
Star Wars: Episode VII opens on Dec. 18, 2015 and is being directed by J.J. Abrams. Oldman can be seen in the new RoboCop, which opens next Friday.
