A plane crashed, killing three, after taking of from the Hawaiian island Lanai Wednesday night.
Maui county believes all passengers have been accounted for and are uninjured, reports ABC News. The bodies were identified as the pilot of the plane and two Department of Planning employees.
Three injured were airlifted to Honolulu hospital in critical condition. The three injured included an additional two Department of Planning employees, as well as the deputy attorney for Corporation Counsel. Corporation Counsel is the agency that provides the county’s legal services.
Those aboard the plan had been on the island for a Lanai Planning Commission meeting, and had chartered the plane for a return flight to Honolulu.
The twin engine Piper PA31 crashed and then burst into flames shortly after takeoff, around 9:30p.m. that night. There is no word yet as to what caused the accident, but the LA Times reports that the Federal Aviation Administration as well as the National Transportation Safety Board will be investigating the crash.
