The Writers Guild Award results are in, and the winners may surprise you.
Breaking Bad took home the award in the TV/Radio Drama Series category, beating out The Good Wife , Homeland , Netflix original series House of Cards , and Mad Men . Other winners were Spike Jonze for his indie hit Her in the Original Screenplay category, movie Captain Phillips in the Adapted Screenplay category. HBO series Veep beat out fan-favorite Orange is the New Black in the Comedy Series category.
The Writers Guild Award honors are given out by the Writers Guild of America, who judge the scripts of the television and movie nominees. CBS News reports that many of the WGA winners from previous years have gone on to win in the same categories at the Academy Awards.
In his WGA acceptance speech for Her Variety reports Spike Jonze as saying,"It's a high honor coming from writers. In a way this is like an award for pain. A specific pain that writers know. The highs and lows of sitting there by yourself. I thank you guys for that."
