Paramount announced that the comedy sequel Hot Tub Time Machine 2 will be released in theaters on Christmas Day.

Variety reports that that makes three movies scheduled for the holiday. The other two movies that will open are Disney's musical Into the Woods, starring Johnny Depp and Universal's World War II film Unbroken, which Angelina Jolie is directing.

Josh Heald wrote the script for the sequel to the successful $64 million grossing 2010 comedy. Steve Pink was tapped to direct Time Machine 2.

Most of the original cast, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark duke, is returning with the exception of John Cusack. Instead, the Parks and Recreation actor Adam Scott will be taking his place and playing the older son of Cusack's character.

The plot for the sequel is one where the whole gang decides they need to use the hot tub to try and help out Corddry's character, but instead of taking them to the past, they are transported into the future.
