The famous Fox TV show, House, played a role in saving a life.

A German doctor took information that he learned on a recent episode of the TV show to diagnose a patient, according to Metro. The symptoms of the patient included fever, blindness and heart failure.

Dr. Juergen Schaefer had watched Dr. Hugh Laurie (House) solve a very similar case recently on television. “After five minutes, I knew what was wrong,” Schaefer said.

The man was suffering from from cobalt poisoning, a result of a problem with a hip replacement.

According to TIME, Schaefer also teaches his students through the television show, House. He uses many of the situations and diseases shown in the TV show as a way to teach his students how to make a diagnosis.

House aired from 2004 to 2012 and told a story about Dr. Hugh Laurie and his less than orthodox ways. Many would describe the character as borderline sociopathic, but Dr. Schaefer would say that Dr. House saved a life.
