Poor weather conditions have lead to car crashes on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and one along an eight-mile stretch between exits 343 and 353 on !-276 have snared up to 100 cars into the accidents.
According to The New York Daily News, about 30 people were pulled from their cars and taken to local hospitals. None of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
Pennsylvania State Trooper Adam Reed said, "This is one of the largest crashes that I've ever heard of volume, size and scope." He added, "we're certainly fortunate that there were no fatalities."
It is assumed that the icy conditions on the road lead to the accidents, but Reed noted that it could be something else, possibly as "simple as someone slowing down and the other traffic not being able to stop in time." Still ice seemed to be the cause.
Speed restrictions, which were set into place during the winter storm battering the area, were halted as it was believed that road conditions were fairly good, reports The Associated Press.
Drivers don't exactly agree with that sentiment as one motorist, Dan Santillo, told the AP that there were "pieces of ice that were never moved or salted. It just didn't make sense."
Despite the numerous cars spun around or leaking gasoline, people at the scene seemed fairly calm.
