In a new public service announcement created by the African Wildlife Foundation in collaboration with WildAid, Rush Hour star Jackie Chan urges his fans to stop the purchasing of products made by rhino horns in hopes of ending the innocent killing of rhinos. The video, titled “Tools of the Trade,” was recently shown to government leaders on February 13 in London in hopes of putting a halt to wildlife trafficking.
In the video, Chan can be seen dodging a number of weapons while delivering his message. The video comes as a response to the significant decline of the rhino population. Due to the poaching of their horns, rhinos including the Asian and Sumatran rhinos, have become critically endangered. Products associated to rhino horns include jambiya dagger handles as well as traditional Asian medicine.
According the the Ecorazzi, Executive Director and founder of WildAid Peter Knights mentions that Chan was the, “first prominent voice to speak out against illegal wildlife trade in Asia and has helped to greatly raise awareness of the plight of tigers and other species since. Jackie loves animals and feels passionately about their protection and his leadership inspired many other Asian stars to become involved.”
The Huffington Post goes on to describe the video where Chan declares, "You are paying for guns, bullets, arrows, chainsaws, axes and machetes to hack off the face of the rhino, and you are paying for the life of a beautiful creature.”
As Chan continues his fight in saving the rhinos, he is also continuing the fight of preserving the wildlife for future generations.
