Jai Courtney has landed the key role of Kyle Reese in the fifth Terminator film, Terminator Genesis. The Jack Reacher actor was reportedly one of the top contenders for the role.
Variety first reported the news. It comes just days after it was reported that courtney and Boyd Holbrook were the top picks for the role.
The other members of the cast include Emilia Clarke, who will play Sarah Connor, and Jason Clarke, who will play John Connor. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also returning.
Genesis will be the start of a new Terminator trilogy. It’s not known what the plot will entail, but considering that Jason Clarke has been cast to play an older John Connor, it will likely cover multiple timelines. In the original Terminator film, Kyle Reese was sent back in time to save Sarah Connor from the Terminator and turned out to be the father of his hero, John Connor.
David Ellison’s Skydance is producing with Paramount distributing. THR notes that Paramount has not confirmed Courtney’s casting yet. Dana Goldberg and Paul Schwake are the executive producers. Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones) is directing.
The film is currently slated for a July 1, 2015 release. As for Courtney, he will next be seen in Divergent.
