The best of independent film will be honored this weekend at the Independent Spirit Awards.
According to Deadline, the Robert Altman Award will go to Jeff Nichols’ Mud. Mud is a story about two boys in Mississippi featuring a large ensemble cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Ray McKinnon, Sarah Paulson, Michael Shannon, Sam Shepard, Tye Sheridan, Paul Sparks, Bonnie Sturdivant, and Reese Witherspoon. The award honors a director, casting director, and ensemble cast, according to the IFC.
Feb. 24th is the deadline for qualified voters to cast their ballots for other award categories. 12 Years a Slave leads the competition for Best Feature. Also in competition for Best Feature this Year is All is Lost, Frances Ha, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Nebraska. Statues will got to Best Feature and Best First Feature. Best Feature Made for Under $500,000 is called the Cassavetes Award.
The 29th annual awards will be held on Saturday, March 1, a day before the Oscars. Patton Oswalt will be hosting, and the show will be held in Santa Monica.
