Friends in Los Angeles are stunned as Julia Roberts’ half-sister, Nancy Motes, was found dead on Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, Motes was found dead in the afternoon after she had been dog sitting for a friend. There is not conclusive evidence at this point detailing exactly how Motes died.

Although there are no findings from an autopsy yet, the family said Motes died of “an apparent drug overdose.” Prescription drugs were found at the house where Motes died. Motes was 37 years old, according to Reuters.

In a statement released to the press, the family said they were “shocked and devastated.” Motes is the sister of Julia and Eric Roberts. Julia Roberts, an actress who first gained fame for her work in the early nineties, was recently nominated for an Academy Award for playing Barbara Weston in the film, August: Osage County. On Monday, other Hollywood actors nominated for Oscars this year found themselves without Roberts at a special event held by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Roberts’ press representatives declined to comment at this time.
