Julie Corey has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her friend and theft of the woman’s fetus.
Last week, Julie Corey of Worchester, Massachusetts was found guilty of the 2009 murder 23-year-old Darlene Haynes and theft of Haynes’ unborn child.
According to The Boston Globe, Corey has received the mandatory life sentence of life without parole. She did not testify during her trial.
Haynes and Corey were once friends who lived in close proximity to one another and reportedly became pregnant around the same time. However, it has been stated that Corey suffered a miscarriage and told no one while she continued to watch the development of Haynes’ pregnancy.
The murder of Darlene Haynes was particularly brutal. Corey beat Haynes over the head and strangled her with an electrical wire. When she was sure Haynes had passed, Corey cut open Haynes’ stomach and physically removed the child, according to Mirror Online.
Immediately, it was obvious that something amiss with Corey when she suddenly announced that she’d gone into labor and had a child within a very small window of time. She refused to let anyone touch the child and it was noted that the child had blood around its mouth and ears, something that would not be present had it been treated at a hospital.
Corey was caught fairly quickly following her crime.
Haynes’ daughter, now four, lives with her father.
