Imprisoned American citizen Kenneth Bae had been returned to the work camp in North Korea after spending time in the hospital for health issues.
The State Department confirmed that Bae was back at the work camp, reports CNN and the U.S. is "deeply concerned" by this move, according to spokeswoman Jen Psaki.
He recently spoke to reporters in North Korea said he had committed a "serious crime" and insisted he wasn't being treated poorly. These statements do come with the caveat that anything he said would have to have been approved by North Korea.
According to The Associated Press, Bae was jailed in 2012 and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. He was a tour guide in North Korea and the government insisted that he had committed hostile acts against the country, though North Korea has never elaborated.
Bae's condition has worried both the U.S. and his sister, Terri Chung, as the 45-year-old has multiple health issues, such as diabetes, liver problems and an enlarged heart.
The U.S. continues to lobby Pyongyang for Bae's release on humanitarian grounds, but has so far been unsuccessful.
