Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff are set to receive the Johnny Mercer award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony.
The famous duo whose work was known for successful projects like “TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia)” and have a celebrated history. Gamble and Huff were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1995, according to the Associated Press. In 2008, they were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. After having written and produced 15 gold singles and 22 gold albums, it seems fitting that this year they will be receiving the Johnny Mercer Award.
According to ABC, the duo is planning to sell their entire catalog. Sony Music Entertainment has bought the collection. They previously owned the licensing rights to the songs recorded from 1971 to 1975. They collaborated with some of the best of the best, including Teddy Pendergrass, Patti LaBelle, the O'Jays and Lou Rawls.
Their studio hits include "If You Don't Know Me by Now," and the O'Jays' "Love Train." They had a great foray into the world of television, providing the theme to the television show, “Soul Train.”
Gamble and Huff will receive the award on June 12th in New York City.
