The city of Austin, Texas has denied Lady Gaga permits to perform on the Doritos Stage at South by Southwest next month.
Gaga applied for permits to perform on the stage, which features a giant vending machine in its parking lot, but her fanbase has been deemed too large.
Don Pitts, manager of the City of Austin Music & Entertainment division, told Austin 360 "Our conclusion was based primarily on public safety concerns.”
He added in an email, “We look at the size and capacity of the location covered by the permit being sought and how it fits with the anticipated attendance, based on event capacity and promotion. At the end of the day, it’s a parking lot."
Pitts said he has notified Gaga and her team that they “support relocation to an established venue with the necessary permanent infrastructure.”
Last year artists like L.L. Cool J, Ice Cube and Public Enemy took to the Doritos Stage. The giant vending machine will return to the parking lot of Carmelo's Italian Restaurant at 504 E Fifth Street again this year.
Starpulse reports SXSW will take place March 7 – 16.
